Bay Area Technology School (BayTech) has the mission to provide a college preparatory educational program emphasizing science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) in a safe environment that cultivates respect for self and others. BayTech serves students in grades 6-12 in Oakland, California.
BayTech's instructional design has four major components: Data-Driven Design, STEM Focus for Creativity and Innovation, Life-Long Learning, and Accelerated Academic Achievement. It is our goal to enable students to become literate in STEM areas, encourage our students to be self-motivated, life-long learners equipped with communication and presentation skills indispensable for the technologically-oriented global environment of the 21st century, and prepare our students to become responsible, educated citizens who have the skills and understanding to participate and work productively in a diverse, multicultural community.
BayTech provides a common core standards-based curriculum emphasizing STEM. The program aims to improve students' performance in reading, writing, and math, reduce dropout rates, achieve high attendance rates, and increase the number of students who pursue careers in STEM areas. The school offers effective site-based instruction, rich hands-on learning, and strong basics presented in ways that are relevant and inspiring. Classroom instruction is supplemented by tutoring, after-school programs, and school-to-university links.
BayTech creates a supportive and caring environment with small classes and strong student-parent-teacher communication. The school also offers Get Ready For Life courses designed to help students attain organizational and study skills. The school provides students with a comprehensive education program that creates multiple opportunities for them to develop into successful contributing members of society.
