Based in Winter Haven, Florida, the Brigham Academy is a STEM magnet school that is focused on developing the future potential of each student. It offers a range of educational opportunities in each STEM field. In addition, students can work on literacy, music, physical education and social studies.
Once students begin at the Brigham Academy, they will be able to develop a well-rounded education. The school is designed to promote STEM education, but it also focuses on changing the world. With this in mind, each student is chosen through a lottery and space availability system. Once they are selected, they begin a rigorous training in STEM, social studies, art and physical education.
Each January, Polk County releases an Open Enrollment for the school. During this time period, parents are allowed to apply for their children. After the application is completed, parents have to wait and see if their child is selected. Results are issue in the spring through a lottery system. Students who are not selected through this initial lottery system can reapply during the following year.
Brigham Academy seeks to provide each student with the tools that they need to reach their full potential. With this goal in mind, they try to stress individual responsibility and citizenship. Successful graduates of the program go on to become the leaders of tomorrow and the innovators in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields. The academy’s mission is to ensure that each program is designed to provide rigorous and relevant learning. As a result, each graduate is able to boast of high achievement levels and learning outcomes. Students at the school must be able to think critically and meet high expectations.
