CHANEY STEM & VPA CAMPUS (CHANEY HIGH SCHOOL)
Chaney STEM & VPA Campus is a high school open to students in the Youngstown City School District. We will accept students from outside the city if we are not filled to capacity. Both teachers and students are required to interview/audition in order to be accepted.
At Chaney high school our goal is to provide the highest quality learning experiences for students through a focus on science, technology, engineering, and math. Students will learn in an inquiry-based environment with the goal of applying learning to real-world problems and solutions.
Our core curriculum is based on the Common Core Standards in Math and Language Arts and the Ohio Academic Content Standards in Science and Social Studies. The engineering curriculum is provided by Project Lead the Way. Project Lead the Way (PLTW) is a national standards-based program that incorporates project-based learning with cutting-edge software and equipment. Students are eligible for college credits to various Ohio and national universities once successfully completing the program.
Our students are exposed to professionals in the science, technology, engineering, and math fields through on-campus presentations, field trips, and after-school programs.
Extracurricular activities are a very important part of Chaney high school. We take field trips to various locations including Mill Creek Park, YSU, OWOW! Children's Center for Science and Technology, Carnegie Science Center, and GM. We also participate in many competitions including Academic Challenge, Challenge 24, MathCounts, FIRST and LEGO Robotic Competitions, Lake to River Science Day, Future City, YSU Physics Olympics, and the YSU Penguin Regatta. Preparation for these competitions is done through our many after-school clubs.
