East Cary Middle School serves sixth to eighth graders in Cary, North Carolina. As 1 of the 17 schools that makes up the Wake County Public School System's STEM Schools Collaborative Network, East Cary seeks to integrate STEM education in all parts of their students' educations. With a focus on technology-based learning, East Cary often tasks students to create multi-media applications, blogs, wikis, videos, and other presentations as a way to respond to what they have learned. The campus runs year-round, and offers its student a wide variety of electives and extracurricular activities. East Cary's efforts come to fruition in the academic records of its students. By the end of eighth grade, over 95 percent of students test at or above grade level in math, and over 85 percent test that highly in reading. The school is further seeking to capitalize on its STEM education-based success by offering increased STEM offerings. In spring 2013, East Cary hosted its first STEM Career Day for students sot that students could get a better understanding of the opportunities available to them if they utilize the education that has been placed at their fingertips.
